FAMILY FRIDAYS

(4.30 – 5.30 pm, every Friday)

We’re pleased to announce the return of “Family Fridays” – a weekly social event for families to come together and have fun playing tennis. The sessions are now up and running, and we’d like to encourage parents and their children to come together to keep fit with fun games on court. Part of each session will be coach-led and include a variety of tennis drills and games.

Sessions are free. For further details please email Jenny Collins at plunkett007@hotmail.com. We hope to see you there!

(Please note sessions are every Friday but will not run if it’s raining.)

TENNIS MEMBERSHIP

Many thanks to everyone who has renewed Tennis membership so promptly.  Already, only a couple of weeks into the season, we’re approaching the total number of Tennis members reached at the end of last year (which was a record high).

BOWLS

Sadly, the Bowls section of the club is, however, struggling, and numbers of players have been dwindling year on year.  You’ll have seen the bowlers’ promotional banner in the car park:

WANT A NON-CONTACT SPORT FOR ALL AGES THAT YOU CAN PLAY AS A SINGLE, IN PAIRS, TRIPLES OR FOURS?  IF YOUR ANSWER IS YES THEN THE GAME OF BOWLS IS DEFINITELY FOR YOU.

No extra charge will be made to tennis members who wish to play bowls, and anyone interested in trying out the game should talk to any Bowler that happens to be on site or you can call David Pratt (01869 350103) who will organise a “roll-up”.  Or email woodstocktennisclub@gmail.com to let us know of your interest (or if you know of anyone who you think would be interested in joining the Bowls section), and we’ll pass the details on.

POLLING 6th MAY

Our Clubhouse is being used as a Polling Station for the local council elections on THURSDAY 6th MAY.  Obviously the car park will be busier than usual.  If you need to come to the Club by car then do so, of course, but if you’re able to walk or cycle that day it would be a big help.  Thanks.

RESUMING TENNIS: RULES

Great though it is to be able to play again, Covid-19 has of course not gone away.  We must be aware and responsible in returning to the courts.  Please read and observe the following carefully:

1.    Social distancing must be strictly maintained.  Keep your distance at all times. Change ends by passing at opposite ends of the net.

2.  In the event that all four courts are in play and someone is waiting for a court, please be fair and courteous and observe the simple club rule: whoever has been playing longest will play for a maximum of 20 minutes before “rotating”.  While waiting to play, stay outside the courts.

3.  As part of maintaining social distancing, allow each other plenty of space when entering or leaving the courts.  In particular, please do not sit on the low bowling-green wall outside the tennis court gate; please sit in the area with the benches outside the clubhouse.

4.  Except for the toilets, the clubhouse is strictly out of bounds.  Do not use the clubhouse.  Please ensure that the door is locked each time you exit: the public must not have access to our toilets.

5.  Do not leave anything on the court when you finish playing.

ENJOY PLAYING. KEEP YOURSELF AND EVERYONE ELSE SAFE.

REOPENING AFTER LOCKDOWN

Not long now!  We’re looking forward very much to being back in action.  As you will no doubt have seen, the government’s plans for a gradual emergence from lockdown include the reopening of tennis courts on March 29th.  The LTA’s efforts to plead for an earlier return for our socially-distanced sport have evidently been unsuccessful, but the good news is that it will be a return to almost full play for outdoor clubs.  The LTA have now confirmed the following:

“Outdoor tennis courts will be able to open from 29 March. This will mean recreational tennis will be able to resume, including singles and doubles social play, 1:1 coaching and formally organised activity for groups (maximum group size and court ratios subject to confirmation)

Indoor courts to remain closed until later in the roadmap.”

The LTA have also published this summary grid:

https://www.lta.org.uk/globalassets/news/2021/summary-grid—permitted-tennis-activity.pdf

So we will look forward very much to reopening our courts at the Club on Monday 29 March.  With the new season about to get under way, for our latest information about membership renewal, click on “Click here for more” below…
