Tennis News: What's On

June

On SUNDAY 10 JUNE, we’re holding our annual Bowls v Tennis bowls match.  It’s always a great afternoon, and if you’ve never played bowls before, this is a fun introduction, with a crash course to start!   It’s sponsored by Jerrams Brothers who are laying on a splendid buffet lunch for all participants (12.30 for 1 o’clock).  Pre-match practice (and crash course) will begin at 1.30, and the match will start at 2.15.  If you’d like to join the Tennis Team, drop a line asap to Ulli at ulli.parkinson@gmail.com.

And coming up soon…

SUNDAY 15 JULY is WIMBLEDON MEN’S FINAL DAY.  We’ve got a special day lined up to mark it, starting in the morning with this year’s SUMMERTIME SLAM – the sponsor’s name for our second social tournament of the summer, with an eccentric handicap system to guarantee close games.  It’s one part competitive, three parts fun, the same ratio involved in the Pimm’s we’ll be serving afterwards along with Wimbledonesque strawberries.  So make a note in your diaries now – SUNDAY 15 JULY, starting at 10.15.  More details about the day soon.

And regularly….

EVERY TUESDAY, 5.30 onward:  CLUB EVENING

EVERY SUNDAY, 1.30 – 3.30:  CLUB AFTERNOON   Our club sessions are thriving: everyone is very welcome – come along and mix in for a friendly and enjoyable afternoon or evening of tennis.  See you soon!

And also…

Our summer coaching programme – for adults as well as juniors – starts again this week after the half-term break.  You can join at any time.  For adults there’s Cardio Tennis every Monday at 9.15, and if you want to sharpen your skills or if you’re feeling rusty there are great sessions on Monday mornings at 10.30, Wednesday evenings at 7.15 and Saturday mornings at 9 o’clock designed to get you up to speed and develop your game.  For all the details of the coaching programmes, just click on http://www.wbtc.org.uk/adult-coaching.php and http://www.wbtc.org.uk/junior-coaching.php.

December

16 December Update

SUNDAY 17th TENNIS OFF...  With temperatures staying so low the snow has hardly begun to thaw on our courts, and even if it does start melting in the morning it'll still be treacherous under foot tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon - plus the fact that rain is forecast for much of the day.  So sadly the weather has definitely won this time, and our planned tennis-followed-by-mince-pies-and-mulled-wine is off.

So we'll look forward to more tennis after Christmas and in the New Year.  Have a very happy one!

No matter what time of year, there’s time for tennis!  Our Club Afternoons are thriving despite the weather, so come along and join in.  If you’re lucky enough to be free in the week, they run on TUESDAYS at 1.30.  And if you want to play at the weekend, come and join the sessions on SUNDAYS at the same time, 1.30.  There’s a CHRISTMAS SPECIAL on SUNDAY 17th – our Club Afternoon will be followed by mince pies and mulled wine.  Come and join us at 1.30!

Meanwhile our club teams are well into their League season.  Fully up-to-date details of all our matches are HERE.

Coming up at the Club this month…

November

CLUB AFTERNOONS on SUNDAYS AND TUESDAYS will be running throughout the month and throughout the Winter.  They start at 1.30.  Everyone is very welcome.  Just come along and mix in.

SUNDAY 5th NOVEMBER, 10 am:  Come and join in our Halloween-themed morning tournament (scarily called the Monster Smash by sponsors Benenden).  It’s a fun red-ball doubles tournament for children and their parents (or grandparents, uncles, aunts etc) playing together as partners. To enter, just email your names (adult and child) saying “Yes, we want to enter the Monster Smash!” a.s.a.p., and by Thursday 2nd at the latest please, to: woodstocktennisclub@gmail.com.

WEDNESDAY 15th NOVEMBER, 8 pm: The other date for the diary is the Tennis Section AGM.  Please make a point of coming: it’s an important date in the Club’s year – a time to reflect on the past year and discuss the year to come, and it’s not at all boring and won’t last hours!  The bar will be open at 7.30 and the meeting will start at 8 o’clock sharp.  It’s for all of us – see you there!

Our Winter League season is well under way.  Good luck to all our teams.  For details of all our fixtures, click here.

Talking of competitions, here’s a date for the diary: SUNDAY 5th NOVEMBER.  Come and join in our Halloween-themed tournament for parents and children in the morning (scarily called the Monster Smash by sponsors Benenden).  More details will be coming soon, but keep the morning free!
